Optically addressed spatial light modulator based on nonlinear metasurface

Spatial light modulators (SLMs) are devices for modulating amplitude, phase, or polarization of beams on demand. Such regarded as the backbone optical information parallel processing and future computers. Currently, SLMs mainly operated in an electrical addressing manner, wherein modulated by signals. However, all-optical systems prefer to control directly (i.e., optically addressed, OA) without electro-optical conversion. Here, we present OASLM based a metasurface (MS-OASLM), whose operation principle relies nonlinear read another write at nanoscale. Its resolution is more than 10 times higher typical commercial SLM achieves 500 line pairs per millimeter (corresponding pixel size only 1 ?m). The MS-OASLM shows unprecedented compactness 400 nm thickness. MS-OASLMs could provide opportunities develop next generation high display technologies.
